AI for advocacy organisations
Individual advocacy services, systemic advocacy and disability representative organisations, and self-advocacy groups handle a constant flow of letters, decisions, intake calls and consultation responses, usually with more demand than advocates. We build systems that take on the sorting, the translating into plain language and the summarising, so advocates spend their time with people. Advice about a person’s rights stays with the advocate or a lawyer, and the person’s decisions stay their own.
What AI can take on in an advocacy organisation
Intake in the person’s own words
A person describes their issue by phone, text or form, in their own words, and it is captured, categorised and routed to an advocate, with the original kept and nothing decided on the way.
Letters and decisions in Easy Read
A decision letter, a plan or a notice turned into a plain-language or Easy Read version so the person can understand it, checked by the advocate before it is shared.
Case notes and correspondence drafts
Case notes and routine letters drafted from the advocate’s account in your templates, for the advocate to correct and sign.
Submissions from many voices
Hundreds of member stories or consultation responses grouped by theme and summarised for the policy team, with every statement traceable to the person who said it and used only with their consent.
A knowledge base of the rules advocates use
The legislation, NDIS rules, review and appeal processes and your own procedures, searchable in plain language, with the source, its version and its date on every answer.
Funder reporting without exposing anyone
Reports to funders produced from your case data in the funder’s format, with the numbers traceable and no individual identifiable.
Accessible self-advocacy resources
Rights information, templates and tools people can use themselves, in the formats they need, on a website that works for them.
What stays with people
- Advice about a person’s rights, options and appeals stays with the advocate, or with a lawyer where legal advice is needed.
- The person’s decisions are their own, with support if they want it; the systems inform and record.
- What goes into a submission, and how a story is used, is decided by the person who told it and the advocate.
- Personal information goes only where you have agreed it can go, and where it is kept is part of the scope.
A draft is a draft until someone who knows the work has read it and signed it off. Every system we build waits for a person before anything is sent, submitted or decided.
On request we review the exact content against the NDIS Practice Standards and state the scope of that review in writing.
What we can build for you
- An intake and triage workflow that keeps the original account.
- An Easy Read tool for letters and decisions with the advocate’s review step built in.
- A submission analysis tool with consent and traceability built in.
- A knowledge base for advocates, and an accessible website and resource library.
An Easy Read version of your key web pages is described on Easy Read website. How we design skilled, paid roles for people with disability, and how to partner on that, is on AI-supported work.
How to start
- A discovery session at $220 an hour inc GST: we work through one task with you, look at what you already have, and give you a written scope. You keep the scope whether or not you build with us.
- A defined prototype: one task, working in your setting, with a clear finish line and a fixed written quote, agreed before any work starts.
- A custom build in staged milestones, each quoted in writing before it starts, so you can stop at any stage and still have something you can use.
Why aXai
aXai is a disability-led AI, software and accessibility company. We build AI systems, software, and concepts and prototypes ready to scale, and we deliver them through AI-supported work: skilled people with disability in real, properly paid roles, working to clear quality standards, with AI removing the barriers and people keeping the accountability.
Every project runs on our own infrastructure, the Decision Bus and Project Layer, so each step is planned, signed off by a person and on the record. That is our operating advantage. Read how it works.
