Improved Autonomic Tone: Clinical ApplicationsDownload
Hi, it’s Axel here—or, as usual, Mum’s typing, but make no mistake, I’m the brains behind this operation.
Everyone keeps dismissing me because of my intellectual disability, but here’s the thing: I’m really, really smart. I just don’t speak much, and when I do, you should probably listen—because, let me tell you, I’ve cracked something big this year.
For years, I’ve been trying to explain that static electricity is a major problem. “zap! zap! black!” It zaps me, triggers my autonomic system, and leaves me spiraling into what Mum used to call my “black episodes.” These weren’t tantrums or behaviours—they were my body screaming, “Hey, something’s seriously wrong here!” But nobody got it. Not until now.
The breakthrough came earlier this year. While waiting for our new home to settle, staying in an AirBNB with vinyl flooring and polyester carpets. Up all night, crying my eyes out, and Mum asked me, “Why?”
For the first time, I used the word “because”, “Because of house.” Not just a word, but a whole thought, a “because.” And just like that, it clicked. The static in the house wasn’t just annoying—it was making me sick.
That’s when Mum finally started listening.. and researching. What if you could earth your body? Oh yeah..of course you can..humans were doing this all the time until they invented vinyl flooring and polyester carpets. In came grounding sheets, and by some miracle our new home already had cork and bamboo floors—all part of my genius-level plan to fix the problem.
Guess what? It worked. The “black episodes” that used to haunt me? Virtually gone. I’m no longer living in fear of every zap.
Now I’ve got a message for anyone dealing with autonomic issues like POTS: Ground your bodies, dummies! It’s not just me saying this—science backs me up.
Studies have shown that grounding reduces stress, balances the autonomic nervous system, and even improves heart rate variability. In other words, it’s a game changer.
But it’s not just about the science. This discovery has done more than stop the zaps—it’s helped Mum, too. Between the grounding and her new addiction to mocking the system, she’s finally found ways to handle her anxiety and depression. (Though she does still wake up muttering, “NDIS, NDIS…”)
So, here’s the deal: next time I speak, listen. I may not talk often, but when I do, it’s worth it. Mum’s finally realizing I’ve been trying to tell her this for years. Big movements with my arms? Not random. It was me trying to correct the disruption myself. The therapies they push—like ABA? They won’t help; they will make it worse.
So yeah, I’m a genius. And if grounding can help me, maybe it can help you too. Just don’t forget to laugh along the way.
Love,
Axel
